So what's so special about Fuerteventura? |
Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary islands and is only 65km from the African coast. It gets around 360 days of sunshine a year and is warm all year round. It features so many stunningly different vistas that you will love exploring all that the different features that island has to offer. |
|
Some examples of the different types of locations that you can find in Fuerteventura are: |
- The sand dunes of Correlejo. These are dunes formed by sand blowing across from the Sahara desert and are now a nature reserve and national park. The road is always covered in drifting sand (it is the main coast road between Puerto del Rosario and Correlejo) and the beaches have a lot of windsurfing and sand kiting.
- There is a recently-opened water park in Correlejo (Correlejo is the largest resort on the island).
- The lagoons at El Cotillo. The crystal clear waters and superb soft sandy beaches are a mecca for the sun lover.
- The beaches on the south east coast. These stretch for over 30 miles and include Sotovento beach, where the annual world windsurfing championships are held, and Risco del paso, allegedly the best beach on the island and just like a carribean beach.
- The black volcanic beach and caves at Ajuy. Great!
- Anywhere in the mountains. The mountains are fantastic to drive through, providing spectacular views all around the island.
- Betancuria. The old capital, located in an extinct volcano. Very pretty & great church.
- The SS American Star. This shipwreck looks like the set of a horror movie! It's really difficult to reach the beach by car (there are several miles of bumpy dirt track) but it's definitely worth it - just take your time!
- Go-karting, a zoo, camel farms, off-road motorcycling, and lots, lots more!
