Where is Vista Montana? In the typically spanish village of Triquivijate |
Vista Montana is located in the tranquil village of Triquivijate (pronounced 'Tricky-vee-arty'). Triquivijate is right in the centre of Fuerteventura about 3 km from Antigua, the capital of this region of the island (this region is also called Antigua). Being in the centre of the island make it an ideal location for discovering all that the island of Fuerteventura has to offer. |
|
Although Triquivijate is small it does have a shop, a bar, a restaurant, two bar/restaurants, a church and some riding stables. The bars are really fantastic in Tricky: Although the locals don't speak very much English they are very friendly and always willing to try and understand what you want! Do try the local specialities of Alioli (garlic mayonnaise, served with fresh bread) and Canarian potatoes (potatoes roasted with their skins covered in salt and served with a spicy red sauce). The roads around Fuerteventura are really good (although getting to the shipwreck SS American Star is quite challenging). Here's what's within quarter of an hour's drive of Vista Montana:
|
- The airport. It is really easy to get to and from the airport, but being inland there is no aircraft noise at all, unlike Caleta de Fuste, Nuevo Horizonte and the golf course.
- Caleta de Fuste. There is a flat, horseshoe-shaped family-friendly beach here and you can snorkel, scuba , windsurf or have a trip in the oceanarium 'submarine' to see if you can spot any seals, dophins or sharks! Also in Caleta are lots of bars, restaurants, banks and shops. All car parking is free. If you want to get a taxi to or from Caleta it should cost less than ten euros one-way.
- The golf course. The 2004 Spanish open was played here. It is open to the public and includes a 5-star hotel.
- Opposite the entrance to the golf course is a new air-conditioned, fully covered shopping mall which, as well as shops that don't close for afternoon siestas, includes an enormous Spar (selling everything from food to flippers), lots of restaurants, a cinema and bowling alley / games arcade.
- Puerto del Rosario. The capital city of the island is a typical Spanish city: Full of hustle and bustle and with lots and lots of shops, bars, restaurants and banks.
